i'm baaack

so did u guys miss me? ahaha. dang, been a month since i last blogged. time flies. let's get on with it.

what have i been doing ah... oh yes, i finally moved house y'all! ok so i did it like 2 wks ago and i did try to write a sob2 story about how i miss my old place, the peace, the quiet, the not often used but well loved reservoir. didn't publish it cos it seemed too try hard, u know wat i mean? the fact is, i really loved the location cos the new hood is a bloody ghetto compared to the 'poshness' of the old place. mat rempits at all times of the night! kids running and screaming! things that go bump! we're on the 2nd floor sommore so we're damn close to the noise lor. sighs. not to mention hakka being a real bitch in the beginning cos he wasn't used to the place. kept meowing for no reason. but he's good now! kinda need to teach him how to use the loo cos don't think the litter tray is gonna work out in the long run. too stinky and messy. if use loo, self cleaning!

i digress. as i was saying, not too keen on the location of the new place lah. lots of buses but none of them go where i need them to go! for eg. i used to need to take just one bus home from uni but now i need two. either that or need to take train + bus. so leceh man can die. good thing i have coursemates who drive and can send me to the nearest mrt station. hehe. i guess it's just a matter of getting used to the new place. will post up pics of my awesome chandelier and other noteworthy parts of the house soon. contractors still putting in the finishing touches.

speaking of uni. had 2 presentations and 1 essay due the past few wks. which would explain y i've been out of action, shaz. got better things to do. wahaha. actually spent a considerable amount of time at work on them but hey, whatever needs to be done eh.

workwise been pretty busy too cos had 2 stats discussion with screw ups in the beginning for both cos i'm an incompetent fool. haha. also have to work on the org. wide standing instructions, s.o.p.s for my work and the icing on the cake would be that the main woman for surveys is going on leave at the end of the month for a good 2 wks and i still know jack shit about the operations. yeah i'm screwed. cos it seems that we're gonna be pretty busy with those things due to end of year events (r u attending, what is yr food preference?) and i have absolutely no idea how to extract data. wish me luck.

just to end on a somewhat happy note, getting bonus this time next wk! also bought a gorgeous bag which i had been covetting for the longest time at 20% off. :) not much but better than nothing. yaaaaaay!

lights fantastic

so, took leave today so that i would have a long weekend. unfortunately i've been spending it packing and procrastinating about doing research for my project. haha some things never change. got discussion tomoro sommore. oh well. the day is still young. contemplating going for a jog later when it's not so hot. or i could just stay home and wolf down swiss chocs. hmm. decisions decisions.

i'm quite pissed off that the recycling people have stopped coming to my estate, cos almost everyone has already moved out. i have stacks and stacks of paper and mags that are probably just gonna be thrown away with all the other non- recycleable stuff. damn annoyed lor. why can't there be recycling bins for every block like they do in aust eh?? so much for reducing our carbon footprint. pfft. NEA, do something about it please! please ah please.

on the bright side (pun intended), i got my black chandelier y'all! it's bloody gorgeous! translucent black and clear crystals. gonna collect it on sun and unfortunately i didn't take a pic of it. another exciting purchase that was made last week also escaped the clutches of my camera lens simply cos i was waaaay too excited to think straight. that one is due for collection on mon. :) let's just say it's some serious blindingly bright bling, and i wasn't the one footing the bill. can't wait mans! super pretty and suits my fat fingers. wahaha. unfortunately we inadvertently annoyed my future m.i.l. cos we didn't tell her about it until after we got it. oops. talk about faux pas. will need to make amends...

in other news, gonna have to stay in the current job for much longer than i thought. need the stupid bonuses in dec and march ah. sighs. there is, however, light at the end of the tunnel (hoho). due to the intensity of the 4th year course i'm currently in, kavi said that i'll probably have to take lots of leave or work part time during the thesis writing period. i would do this gladly, if it wasn't for the fact that i really need a full time paycheck. what's a gal to do? kavi and i stumbled upon a brilliant idea of cos. the kind that hits u when u're talking about something completely random and irrelevant- until u connect the dots. it's an unlikely thing for me to do, but it's a means to an end. where else can u earn pretty much full time pay while doing a part time job? think hard my friends... the answer will be glaringly obvious. :)

news y'all

righto, on to the big news of the moment- i got into my post grad dip course! woohoo! but of cos they couriered me the letter of offer on fri and class starts on mon. well done. it also seems that they don't accept cheques. must be bank draft, electronic transfer or credit card. wtf mates?? sooo inconvenient lor! this means that on mon i'll probably have to call them in the morn and confirm that they don't accept cheques then do some running around during lunch to get the draft sorted out and perhaps take time off in the afternoon to go down to the school to get these things done before class starts. pfft. this also means that my mum will have to transfer the $$ to my account so i can get the draft on my own. which leads me to another qn- if there is a withdrawal limit per day and the fees are more than that, does it mean that i won't get my draft? does anyone know? it shouldn't be the case i reckon.

anyways, went for the body shop charity makeover marathon with rohana yest. now usually we would do some cam whoring but it was a bit of a let down. whatever the make up artists did to us, i can do on a daily basis also lor. the lancome one 2 yrs ago was sooo much more pro! and the one yest had one vital piece of the puzzle missing. there was no hair styling!! blasphemous! we all know that the most important thing is hair, don't we? was so disappointed i tell u, seeing how my major prob is hair and not make up. sighs. we were gonna have our pics taken but then after we got our makeovers we were like, naaaaaah. redeemed $40 worth of make up at the thingy. unfortunately it didn't extend to non- make up products so rohana felt quite cheated.

the bf met us there afterwards and we went for a 'snack' seeing how we were all hungry. even though the bf and i were heading to nas's open house. haha. had to buy a pair of shoes also cos the ones tt i was wearing were making an annoying noise cos the nail of the right heel had worn through. yeah, any excuse. :) i love my new shoes! i also have another witness in rohana that the bf does exist, contrary to popular belief. haha.

is it just me or does the wkend pass waaay to quickly? sighs.

the raya post

EID MUBARAK/
SELAMAT HARI RAYA
TO ALL AND SUNDRY
MAAF ZAHIR BATIN

i had like 4 servings of yummy longtong, ketupat, rendang, ayam masak merah and what not today... mmmm... visited only 4 houses cos both lala and my mum broke their shoes. this is why u shouldn't skimp on good footwear y'all! good thing we went home lah cos was feeling kinda winded. got hit in the chest by the airbag a few days ago and it hurts like a biatch. got a bruise above my left boob. can't laugh too hard or take too deep breaths. which sucks cos i kinda gotta breathe and the siblings were being pretty selenge so there was plenty to laugh about. haiz. shall go do some deepheat rubbing i guess. i wonder if this means that i won't be able to do the GE run this coming wkend. nooooo!

anyways hope everyone had a good day with their loves ones... and many more to come.

p.s. shaz u ingrate, at least i bothered to send u an sms ok!! pfft. whatever happened to it's the thought tt counts?

battered big blue

my bad... sorry rush!
so kemekvictim. sorry tree!

urgh don't ask. really. therein lies the reason why perth ain't happening next year. i'm also self- imposing a driving ban on me for an indefinite amount of time. haiz.

injuries to tree: minimal, police say no need to make report
injuries to perpetrator: extensive. we re talking around 10k
injuries to moi: minimal also, no worries. couple of bruises here and there

hope is the thing with feathers

hmm i'm feeling kinda tingly all over. i only recently discovered that i actually qualify to do a post grad dip in psych that's accredited by the aust psych society (thanks kavi!!). OMFG. think i only have myself to blame cos when i checked about 2 yrs ago, they didn't offer this course and only had the honours year. doh! now the question is, do a post grad dip or an mba? they would both cost around the same amount. i'll probably need to take a loan which is a bit of a bummer cos i don't wanna. haiz. the things we do for our dreams.

an mba would mean that i'll be able to do whatever it is that i'm currently doing (ie. stay in the private sector, not necessarily at the same company. heaven forbid) and move up the ranks a lot faster. post grad dip would mean that i finally get my foot in the door of psych. i'm excited y'all! i'm fine with either one lah but naturally i'm leaning more towards psych tho mba would mean hitting the big time. decisions decisions.

in work news, my manager is going on leave for 2 wks. yay! we will be shifting to the 6th floor on tuesday. apparently our new space is kinda small and fishtank-like. i have no idea what that means cos i haven't seen it yet. this is the ceo's floor tho so no more dressing like a bum to work. how sad.

i discovered on fri that sometime in nov, i'll have to make a presentation to all the heads of dept. this is regarding the annual staff survey so will have to present which depts have the highest and lowest satisfaction scores and what we can do about it. i'm praying that my h.o.d. will say he'll do it and i only need to give him the info and presentation slides. please ah please. will also be working with one of my colleagues on cleaning up the standing instructions that we have so hopefully that will occupy my time.

oh i finally signed up for the oil painting course at nafa that i'd been eyeing for the past year or so. this means that i'm officially broke this month cos it cost me friggin' 330 bucks (inc. gst and processing fee). not inclusive of materials. it better be worth it man.

sept babies

birthday shoutout time!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY & WELCOME TO
THE QUARTER CENTURY CLUB!!
DIYANA 25 09
HAJAR 27 09

hope you ladies had/ will have a good one... otherwise i know whose heads are gonna roll. wahaha.
er did i miss anyone out? i could swear that there are more sept babies... hmm...

what sucks part deux

so i've been doing a lot of thinking lately. i'm pretty miserable in my current job and am sorely tempted to quit, even though i haven't secured another position elsewhere. told myself i'd give me 3 mths here and if it doesn't work out, it's time to go. it will be 3 mths in a few days and it looks like, yes, it's time to go. it's true, acting busy is hard work and i'm doing that pretty much every single day. not fun lor. my brain cells are rotting, my soul is getting sucked and the air conditioning is too damned cold for anyone's good. if i get early onset of arthritis i am totally blaming them. gonna blame them for alzheimer's too. haha.

went to visit my ex manager at her new dept this week so she could sign my testimonial. she's like, eh don't let anyone see hor, wait i die. ahaha. she was asking me what kinda jobs i was looking for, i told her and she was like, so boring! i was like, here also boring leh! she's surprised cos she was in almost the same position as me back then and it was interesting. i told her it was pretty slow, not much happening since the change of management and everything that i do is pretty ad hoc. she suggested that she could ask my h.o.d. to second me out to her dept cos they're super busy but then it won't be nice lah... i'm new in that dept too, would be questionable if she were to ask for me back. oh well.

to be fair i haven't exactly been giving 100% in this position also lah... been trying but i just can't summon enough motivation to actually give a fuck. why? cos i seriously believe that they would be better off outsourcing what i'm doing. like seriously. this sounds bad but at my next stats discussion due in oct, i might just say it. i'm dying to say it. already emailed my mgr to tell her that my jobscope is way too narrow but dunno if she'll actually do anything about it. whatever lah. my section is moving up to the ceo's floor next fri. woo freaking hoo. means i actually have to dress better for work. what a waste of time and effort. pfft.

sighs. the job hunt continues. it's a lot harder when u don't really know what u wanna do in the first place. or rather, what u would be happy doing.

what sucks

  • having a pain in yr butt that won't go away (no shaz, not referring to u)
  • wasting 2 hrs of yr life in a bus to get u to yr training centre
  • having butt cramps during above mentioned journey and having no room to stretch
  • finding out u got yr period 15 minutes before buka time
  • pissing yrself about yr highly-anticipated interview tomoro
  • not knowing the driving route and thinking twice about driving there even tho it'll save u a shitload of time and hassle

ramadan

well well, it's that time of the year again...

selamat berpuasa people, and have a great ramadan!

sadly this year there will be no open house cos we are finally moving! good thing we had one last year then. this means that i will not be doing any baking. will be spring cleaning and packing up instead. bummer...

since i'm lazy here's a quick look at what's been going on:

- a whole bunch of us went to womad. it was a great night out!
- i finished the shape run. not that great a time lah, will have to do better next time. one down, 2 to go! great eastern 10km and stanchart half mara... why do i put myself thru these things. why. le sigh. and i look terrible in a running tee. note to self, work on upper body. like, seriously.
- still don't have that much to do at work. it's driving me nuts. which is why i'm job hunting more seriously now. absolutely desperate to leave.

other than that, same old same old. been feeling pretty tired lately when i get home from work. i wonder why. can't even be bothered updating the blog sia. haha. oh well whatever.

quarter of a centurion (extremely belated, i know. jeez)

oookay it's a little basi but i'm gonna put up a birthday post anyway. wahaha. better late than never! as usual, we shall revisit last year's list of unfulfilled wishes:

x) a blender. no need! gimme a plasma/ lcd screen anytime. ;)
2) an iPod. we r still not meant to be, apparently. but i'm cool with it, cos it's not necessary
3) 3 letter word. got it! wahaha. or should i say, got him!
x) crocs ballet slippers. no need lah, soooo basi mans. i got me scholls.
5) pda. wahaha. one kind.

adding on:

6) wallet. my 8 yr old one is looking a little worse for wear. time to say goodbye. :( got a hot pink braun buffel from bro and sis...
7) samsung garnet red 10.9. parents got me this one!
8) micro sd card. the bf took care of this, plus a few other things... :)

mooches got me this huge tin of choc biscuits that i was eyeing from candy empire... yummy! marsya loooooves them. yeah i'm turning her into a chocoholic. wahaha. come over to the dark side...

think this has been one of the best birthdays so far... great company, great pressies, flowers, fireworks, choc cakes... mmmm... wat more could i ask for? pics at the usual add (with more details), knock yrselves out. next post, womad!!

as luck would have it...

i'm down with food poisoning. it started at about 7am on monday morning, while i was getting ready for work. i will spare u guys the details but the last tally is 6 barfs and 6 poos. not to mention 2 days mc. woo freaking hoo! even my body doesn't want me to go to work. wahaha. talk about super long wkend sia. was pretty miserable yesterday but today i'm better. haven't lost any of my lunch or dinner from yest, nor have i lost brekkie and lunch from today. it's all good!

decided to use the time wisely and start applying for more jobs and update my resume. i've decided that this time round, even if it is not 100% what i'm looking for, i'll take it if the salary is higher and it's something i can do, based on work experience. don't care. just need. to. get. out. of. this. co... before it kills me. my skin suffering already ok! breaking out for no apparent reason. sighs.

ok lah shall stop complaining about work... but it's my blog so too baaaaad.

here comes the brett all dressed in red

so yesterday i brought home my latest gadget... meet brett, the samsung u600/10.9

isn't he gorgeous? had to pay 100 bucks extra cos apparently my contract wasn't up yet and i had to pay to renew it early. bah. paid up cos i wanted the phone soo bad. err and it's a birthday present from the parents anyway. hehe. the bf and i had gone on a hunt in vivo for it without any luck, so we headed to the hello shop at orchard. asked the dude if he had it in red, he went to check, then said there was a last one that was actually reserved, but the person didn't come so i could have it. i was like, yes ahhhhh! i pretty much told him the whole story about how we went all over sg (exaggerate a bit ah) to look for it then he was like ok ok u lucky, here got. i asked, confirm plus guarantee right? then think he got a little scared cos he went behind again to double check and reserve it for me. wahaha. i like. good service. the bf pointed out that his nametag said that he was still a trainee, and maybe he'll get into trouble for giving me the phone. i was like, urhm, mebbe his name is trainee? haha. i got what i wanted so i'm good! like that U2 song says, just gimme what i want, and no one gets hurt... lol

in other news i have spectacularly blown my budget this month. on what, u ask? two words- massages, endowment. i see them both as investments, or so i tell myself just to assuage my guilt. wahaha. somehow i doubt this is gonna stop me from getting new work shoes tho. hmm. ok ok next month have to tighten belt... both literally and figuratively.

i have 4 weeks to my shape 10km run. i haven't exactly been training hard (or at all for that matter) so i'm a little worried. hoping to beat my timing from last year's stanchart. seems like i have to die die start bootcamp tomoro. argh! need to incorporate paying back puasa also... damn me for procrastinating. lucky only 4 days. so yes, wish me luck people. i know i've done it before but i think i was in much better shape last year than i am now.

on the job front, same old same old. skipped work on fri after making a day trip to kl on thurs. yay long weekend! haha. this brings my annual leave balance down to a mere 6 days. some of which i will probably be using if the vietnam/ cambodia trip in nov goes as planned. hopefully it will go as planned ah. was looking thru recruit yest and damn, there's a lot of jobs out there. still window shopping ah, cos if i'm gonna make a career out of it, it absolutely has to make a difference in some way. can't spend every single day doing something mundane. can't do it anymore mans. doesn't help that most of my close colleagues are tendering lor. makes me wanna jump on the bandwagon. haha. of cos i'm not gonna do that lah, not without another job anyway. the search continues.

bloodbath

in the past week i received not one but 2 smses asking for blood donations for specific persons. before this there was a company wide drive for one of our retired colleagues who needed blood also. the colleague i couldn't do anything about it lah, not the same blood group. the 2 smses i got requested for my blood type. i'm thinking, what the hell, i miss one blood donation in june and the bank's in deficit?? it wasn't my fault anyway, i was only like 3 days early and my iron was at an acceptable level if i had come when i was supposed to but was apparently too low for an early donation. what the hell?? so if i were to come back 3 days later with the same iron level, i would've been able to donate. screw that lah! how much can my iron level change in 3 days sia?? doesn't make sense. sheesh. should be more flexible with their policies if they want more people to donate.

so anyway, i went to check the bloodstocks.

as u can see, low and warning levels. currently only 1% of the population donates blood. sad isn't it? i'm planning on donating sometime this week so if anyone wants to join me, feel free. must be healthy, haven't been taking medication, etc etc. get more info here. then again ah i don't really feel good about giving blood this time cos i've been getting lots of mozzie bites lately. hmm. no i do not have dengue. all the same, gonna wait a few days before i go.

there's also been some news lately about organ donation. i think i opted into the scheme a few years ago but i can't remember. needed the signature of a close male relative ie. dad, so i'm not sure whether i mailed it in or not. hmm. there was an article about organ donation in reader's digest a few months ago too. it's a big deal eh. i don't think it's against islam to donate organs. that's what i understood from stuff i read ages ago, which is why i opted in. i guess it's all up to interpretation. whatever it is, u don't need yr organs when u're dead what. might as well give to someone who needs them to live.

my bond with my company was over as of 25 july 2007. since then, i've been having this urge to just throw down a resignation letter even though i have no excuse for doing so. i'm in a good dept now. i have good colleagues. i have pretty challenging project based work to do, which is what i want. so then, why do i still feel so lousy? seems that my work isn't meaningful enough for me. i'm doing strategic planning with about 6 other colleagues. so pretty much whatever we do will affect the direction of the company ah. sounds important eh? doesn't make it any less boring than batshit to me. i still fall asleep at work, i still can't concentrate and i still feel frustrated. do i wanna look back, 20 years from now, and realise that whatever work i've done did not benefit those who are less fortunate? that i've been working for money (not that they're paying me much ah) and not for the greater good? that whatever i did has no impact whatsoever on anyone? at the same time i'm not gonna be stupid and take a huge paycut just to serve. must be balanced lah, i need to live also! can't help people if i can't even help myself now can i... it's like that rule on the plane about adults using the oxygen mask first and then attending to children. fittest first. i can see how my current job and company can help people financially ah, but i'm not interested in that. haiz. i supposed i could make the best of my current situation but it's been 2 years leh. dunno if i can tahan being in this industry forever.

to be corny, shall quote a few lines from my old school song. kavi, yaya and i were wracking our brains trying to remember the whole song at starbucks a few wks ago. haha. yaya finally called a friend and we got the last agonising line.
we cannot all be heroes and thrill a hemisphere
with some great daring venture some deed that mocks at fear
but we can fill a lifetime with kindly acts and true
there's always noble service for noble souls to do

so whoever is able to, go donate blood ok. please.

in other news, went to the birdpark on sat for the s.i.e.u. race/family day. it was fun mans! pics at the usual add. er pics from the girls day out aaaages ago also uploaded. sorry for the delay ladies! wahaha.

20 07 2007

fantastic date today ain't it? my cuz took my projected wedding date of 07 07 07. his cuz took my projected wedding date of 20 07 2007. *sighs*

tomoro it'll be my turn to be like 'a worm in a bird's nest during breakfast'. that's interesting. i've never been eaten before... shaz, i made that up especially for you. so please make it worth my while by coming up with a witty comeback ok? key word, witty.

in other news, harry potter book sept et finale drops tomoro morn y'all. gonna b picking kavi and mooches up at the ungodly hour of 0630 ish so that we can go collect our books from our most convenient singpost. mooch is just in it for the prata later on. haha.

was craving timtams the other day so i went on a hunt. didn't find them. was so disappointed i could've cried. *sighs* i want my timtams dammit!! no. i don't want them, i need them!! mmm... timtam bombs... mmm. someone tell me where i can get timtams pleeaaaaassseee?

then i discovered that about 40 bucks worth of redemption dollars on my card went mia. apparently they expire 12 mths after they are issued. am i supposed to know that?? and even if i am, why didn't they send me a letter letting me know that they were going to expire soon?? i can't even find out how much i have left unless i buy something! why isn't there a monthly statement?? assholes! i am going to do what everyone does in a situation like this... i'm gonna write them an email. i better get them dollars back man. or something.

good news is, my investments r making money! woohoo! bad news is i got billed for a fund switch which i did not make. this means that they deducted units from one of my funds to pay for it. one of my better performing funds. not happy!! naturally, i'm gonna write them an email.

workwise, things have been pretty interesting, albeit a bit slow. learning lots of things, doing lots of research, even got to play escort today to foreign visitors. my shoes absolutely killed my feet tho. got blisters within the first 5 min. bah. stupid shoes. never gonna get any from that particular store again. pfft. had to smoke my way thru some of the questions the visitors asked me. haha. when in doubt, be vague. they were french so i got to practice on them. haha. poor things. probably butchered their language.

ok gonna go do my sun chores on this fri night. cos i won't feel like doing anything after tomoro. hmm wonder if i can sneakily read potter in office... oh shit, forgot. need to do research this wkend. aaaarrrggggghhhhhh. *sighs*

070707: zubair & shirin tie the knot

CONGRATULATIONS
BUYIN AND ZUBAIR
ON YOUR MARRIAGE!!

even tho u took my projected wedding date, i'm still wishing u all the best. wahaha. finally the deed is done and u're embarking on the next chapter of yr lives... hope you will have lots of fun along this journey and make babies soon! oh, and bring me back a turkish teacup set when u go on yr honeymoon hor... wahaha.
only putting up one pic for this post, so u know where to go for the rest. business as usual.

anyways, day started pretty early on sat, came home late (or early) from simpang and then had to wake my official saree tying person up. haha. thanks kavi!! u're the best! was feeling the effects of the awesome cheese fries from the night before so put off wearing the saree for as long as possible. fortunately my stomach behaved itself and i wasn't inconvenienced. haha. left at around 10.30am with kavi and my sis for the nikah happening at the cc.

the tuk kadi who married them was the same guy who did my bro, and my parents too. he's a veteran in the field i tell ya. so funny also! it didn't take too long, and was entertaining. after that we had lunch, and sat around waiting for guests to arrive. so pretty much tangkap jambu lah. haha. cannot do much work mah, wearing saree. wonder how those people go around dancing and running in saree. takes skills man. had to limit water intake cos can't really pee. haha. sighs. i know, why do i do this to myself... cos i look freaking good in it dammit!

so i was holding the bride's bouquet for her, waiting for them to arrive at 2ish. they looked gorgeous, obviously. there wasn't any kompang, had bangra dance instead and it was awesome! hahaha. so damn cool lah. took some vids of it, even caught the bride and groom joining in. so fun. it wasn't too loud or too long like kompangs usually are so that was good. so entertaining!

we left at about 4 to go home and change for the dinner. managed to squeeze in a quick shower too. redid makeup, accessories, etc etc then headed back to the venue. a bit kecoh lah cos the bridesmaids were late, and guests were arriving ready but guestbook wasn't there, there were boxes of berkat everywhere, etc etc. managed to get everything sorted out and then found out 2 of the groomsmen hadn't arrived yet. doh. went searching for them, then briefed them on what to do. basically stand there and look handsome, and take the lead from the bridesmaids cos they know what to do. haha. the flower girls and boys were damn cute lor! girls dressed like fairies complete with wings and wands... can die.

soon it was showtime, so the bridesmaids donned their masks and took their places. got volunteers to blow bubbles along the red carpet as the bride and groom walked in. then the walk started. bestman and myself led the group, followed by the 6 couples, then the fairies and their pageboys, then bride and groom. i must say it looked pretty good. haha. if u're wondering why there were sooo many of us, it's cos there r supposed to be 7 couples, to represent 070707. geddit geddit?

bride's sisters read the wedding speech on stage and they ended up in tears halfway, which of cos made the bride and groom cry as well. so touching... this just shows that no matter how good a speech u write, the way u deliver it matters even more. then there was the dinner and cake cutting and mingling with the guests... all in all a pretty tiring but fulfilling day.

ok lah right now i should actually get off my arse and stop sitting in front of the comp. talk about a lazy sunday mans. will try to get some chores done. haha.

the sheep entered the lion's den, and came out alive. well done.

newsflash

EU07: roma, pisa, firenze, italia. 4 - 6 june 2007

ciao roma

so we jetted off to our next stop, roma, after surviving the crazy airport shuttle drive. at this stop, we got to know wat a kamchiong spider ez is. wahaha. was panicky about finding the way to the airport railway. relek aaaaaah! after asking a couple of people we got to the train station to catch a ride into roma. at this point, i must say i began to appreciate sg's transport system. u know how much the ride cost not?? 11 euros leh! for like, a half hour journey! basket... show some love to the mrt, people.

got settled into our cute apartment which we shared with a couple from aust. lilliput hostel was pretty nice, in a gated building with lots of locks. felt very safe. loved the loo cos of the presence of a bidet. have u guys tried those before? quite cool leh, so easy to cebok. couldn't get enough of it. wahaha. our room was cool too, 3 single beds and then a spiral staircase led up to a loft like thingy with another bed there. little did we know that we were sharing that room...

went walking around, discovered the supermarket, and then went back to make cup noodles. was pretty late when we reached rome lah so didn't do much, just relek one corner and reserve energy for the next day. funny enuf, this was the first night that ez didn't snore the house down... i think i did some teeth grinding though. haha. next morn, a discussion revealed that both zur and ez felt a presence in the room. yeah, that kinda presence. me being me, i didn't wanna talk about it lah, tho i did feel it a little. i'm more like, i don't disturb u, u don't disturb me lor.

pisa beckons

ok another reason we went to bed pretty early was cos we had to catch our train to pisa the next morn and book our other train tix. we were at termini station soo early, we beat the office crowd. haha. zur and i wanted to wear our cute outfits. so we did. bad idea. it promised to be a gloomy, rainy day. thank god for shawls and scarves.

i'm not sure but i think this was the ride when ez once again showed his kamchiong-ness. we were supposed to be in 1st class, but found out that we were in 2nd, so we left the carriage. now, the practical thing to do when the train is about to leave would be to walk thru the train until we get to 1st class. not jump off the bloody train with seconds to spare like our dear mr ez did. zur and i were so confused we followed suit. needless to say, he got an earful when we were finally able to catch our breath in the correct carriage. never. never. do. that. ever. again. he had the cheek to tell us to relek sommore. chey!

anyways, we reached pisa in one piece, then tried to figure out how to get to the leaning tower and other buildings yang sewaktu dengannya. do u know that to get a bus ticket, u can't buy it from the bus stop or the bus driver but rather, u need to go to a tabacchi (tobacco shop) or a bar?? wtf rite? have to go and figure out which one actually sells the tickets sommore. was pretty stunned by this, i can tell u that.

we managed, and found ourselves outside the walls of this enclosed area with all the cool touristy buildings inside. funny thing is, outside the walls, it was just like any other normal street with people going about their daily business. once u pass through the gates, boom, it's like an oasis in the middle of a desert. huge crowds of people, roadside stalls, noise, life. this happened to us pretty much throughout our italian leg. nothing nothing nothing, huge crowd, nothing nothing, lots of noise, nothing nothing... u get the picture. it was damned hilarious. we were almost always taken by surprise.

looking at the tower and just being there was a little surreal. i would have never imagined that i would be halfway across the world, standing in the vicinity of one of the most well recognised monuments ever. it's a piece of history, people. even though the weather was crap, it was still fantastic just being there and soaking up the atmosphere. and yes, it really does lean! the other buildings were pretty awesome too but i can't for the life of me recall what they were.

next stop, firenze

made a pitstop at florence just for the heck of it even though we didn't know what there was to see there. haha. it was a nice place, with this huge market thingy where we got lots of tees for the people back home. there was this cute guy who was helping an old man find his way to some place and he smiled at us. zur and i were so smitten that we started following him and oohed and ahhed (in malay) over how nice he was for such a cute boy. yeah yeah, bite us. it was fun. hehe. we were quite happy to lag behind him and ogle from afar but alas, he turned a corner away from where we were headed. sighs. it was short lived but it will forever be cherished. wahaha.

then after that we caught the train back to rome lah. were so damned shagged i tell ya. we were gonna check out the rome sights the next day, so were pretty excited about that...

shall continue in another post cos this one is getting waaay too long. next instalment- roma, padova and venezia! for pics please go here.

EU07: istanbul, turkey. 2 - 4 june 2007

turk hava yollari

for zuraidah and i, the EU07 experience started pretty much from the moment we stepped on board the turkish airline flight. there was a leceh woman in front of us (which irritated the hell outta me, knowing how easily irritable i am) and just beyond her, a pretty hot steward. hehe. he wasn't as good looking as the jude law lookalike i spied in the aisle on the other side but he was charming as hell. this made me forget all about miss leceh and i was pretty happy as i settled into my seat. we got the very last row at the back. little did we know that this would mean that we would be privy to the antics of cabin crew when they think no one is paying attention...

haha no lah, nothing naughty. think our crew was pretty friendly, the guys especially. the girls seemed like they had something up their arses. not as accomodating. service standards, people, hello?

anyways, the charming steward's butt brushed my shoulder like 3 times the entire flight. was that a hint dude? wahaha. then towards the end of the journey i decided to watch a hindi film. bad idea. bad bad idea. was blubbing like an idiot (come on, hindi leh. and i find abishek smokin' hot. le sigh.) and this was the exact moment that charming steward decided to hit my head with his bloody elbow. i was like, ow. then he was apologising and rubbing my head after that. haha. he decided to be a little more friendly and started talking to me. keep in mind that my brain was already muddled by abishek at the time and all i could do was give monosyllabic answers and grin like a fool. when the conversation was over, i turned to zur and asked, i have eye crap in my eyes don't i? aaaarrrggghhh soooo unglam lor!

first stop

then we landed. helloooo istanbul! we got airport pick up with our hostel and were whisked away to our home for the next 2 nights. stayed in the old sultanahmet area, within walking distance of the blue mosque and aya sofya. antique hostel is pretty awesome lah, very friendly staff, nice setting, good brekkie. too bad we didn't take pics with the staff. oh well.

we dropped our bags off and walked around before checking in cos we were a little early. fell in love with the quaint houses and cobblestone streets. one thing tho, they drive like madmen! seriously! u would think that a huge tour bus could never make sharp turns and pass thru little streets and alleys but it can! saw it with me own eyes! unbelievable. while walking down one of the streets, we got to know a shop keeper named mehmet tim. he was very friendly and gave us a few good tips. little did we know that there was an udang di sebalik batu... hot tip for future tourists- never never accept an invitation to drink tea unless u really wanna buy a carpet! ez and i got a carpet each... small price to pay for escaping with our lives. wahaha.

there were hot men everywhere lah... zur and i cuci mata until we were tired. haha. kept going kacak kacak kacak the entire time. ez wasn't very amused but he was nice about it, seeing how we're so deprived in sg of good looking men. haha. needless to say, our malay improved cos we were gossiping about people right in front of them most of the time. oh, in istanbul, we are malaysians. natives of kl in fact, cos apparently they don't like u.s. allies and guess which country is a u.s. ally? yeah, that's right.

ok this is the brekkie view we get in the morn. cool rite... looks more awesome live!
took lots of pics of the blue mosque. was pretty obsessed about it. haha. this is one of them.
inside the mosque... was stunning, tho the smell of hundreds of feet stank to high hell.
yum yum... our fave restaurant, doy doy. damned good food in turkey. everything halal sommore!
passing under a suspension bridge on our bosphorus river cruise. very hot day, think we got a tan.

as u can see, our time in turkey was quite well spent. went to the blue mosque, aya sofya, a museum or two, walked around and ate like the locals, washed eyes a lot. haha. we got a glimpse of the new city when we were on our daytour and we were like, thank god we're holed up within the walls of the old city. new city like very normal lah, like every other city around. crowded, tall buildings, etc etc.

our shuttle back to the airport was such an experience. like roller coaster sia. they were weaving in and out and stuffing bags and people into the van like no one's business. crazy fellas. just when we thought they had no more room and couldn't pick up anyone else, they did. when we thought there was no way they were gonna make it passing thru a narrow street with a huge truck on one side and a rough wall on the other, they did. it was simply a matter of maneuvering and closing side mirrors here and there. u have to experience it to believe it. really.

and just like that, our turkish experience came to an end. next stop, roma, italy!

*dey got limit on no. of photos that can be uploaded leh! will put up more in flickr and let u guys know ok.
